Goryokaku
Goryokaku is a castle of a ridge-shaped style, which was built in the last years of the Edo Period. It is a star-shaped castle, which is designated as a special historic site of the country. It is a set in Hakodate War, which is the last war of Boshin, and it has been developed as Goryokaku Park, also, Hakodate Magisterium was reconstructed. It is a place famous for its cherry blossoms in Spring and the moat is illuminated during the winter. You can enjoy the panoramic view of Goryokaku from Goryokaku Tower.

Matsumae-Castle
Matsumae Castle was built in 1854, which is the last old-style castle construction in Japan. When the Russian Fleet arrived at the end of the Tokugawa period, the shogunate ordered Mr. Matsumae to construct a castle for security purposes. The greatest characteristic of Matsumae Castle is a fort that was established toward Tsugaru Channel. In 1949 June, former castle tower was destroyed by fire but the current castle tower was rebuilt in 1961. Honmaru gate is designated as an important national cultural property.

Hirosaki-Castle
It is designated as an important cultural property along with the castle gate of Hirosaki-Castle and 3 corner turrets. Various seasonal events are held such as spring cherry blossom festival, autumn leaves festival, winter snow lantern festival and so on. Also, you can see the remains such as the castle gate and turret, that remind us of that period.

Sendai-Castle
Sendai Castle was built by Masamune Date, and it was a castle of the lord for the Date family for generations about 270 years. It is the next largest castle in Japan to Edo Castle but a castle tower was not build. The most of the buildings were destroyed by air raids, but the stone walls of incisions that are processed by the technique that is called "Edo-Kiri" is remaining.

Shiroishi-Castle
It is known as the castle of the lord of Katakura Kagetsuna(Kojuro), who is the right-hand person of Date Masamune. It is one of the few castles that was recognized as an exceptional case when the law applied as establishing only one castle in each feudal domain. For over 260 years, it had been the castle of the lord of Katakura family. In 1995, Three-tiered turret(castle tower) and gates were almost restored faithfully. It is one of the largest and highest restored wooden Tenshu in Japan.

Kubota-Castle
Kubota Castle was a castle of the lord of Mr. Satake(the 12th). There were almost no stone walls and it was protected by mounds and moats. They did not build a castle tower from the beginning because of consideration for Shogunate. The most of the remaining structures were destroyed by a fire in 1880, the existing building is a small guard post only. The corner turret was restored in 1989, and it is developed as Senshu Park currently.

Yamagata-Castle
Yamagata Castle was a castle of the lord for the major daimyo of Tokugawa family. It was the fifth largest castle in the country and the biggest castle in Ouu district. It is said, the remaining moat of Ninomaru and mount/stone wall were developed in 1622. Ninomaru Higashi Otemon was destroyed in the Meiji era, but it was restored in the wooden architectural style in 1991. Today, Ninomaru ruin remains as Kajo Park, also, it is a place famous for its cherry blossoms in Spring.

Kaminoyama-Castle
Kaminoyama Castle was developed as a modern castle at the time when Mr. Toki was the lord of the castle. It was distinguished as a famous castle of Ushu. In 1692, it was demolished by the shogunate along with Toki's transferring, and the moat and wall stones still remain as a remnant of those days. It has been developed as a Tsukioka Park, and the imitation Tenshu of Borogata has been built at Ninomaru ruins. Currently, it is used as a local history museum.

Nihommatsu-Castle
Nihonmatsu Castle was a castle of the lord for Nihonmatsu Domain until the Meiji Restoration. Hirayama castle is situated on "Shirahatagamine", which is 345 meters high above sea level. The second-floor Yagura, Minowa Gate, Tamon-yagura (turret) was restored in 1982, also, Honmaru has been restored since 1993, and the castle tower and Honmaru stone walls were also maintained. Currently, it is used as "Kasumigajo Park."

Aizuwakamatsu-Castle
In 1643, Masayuki Hoshina(Matsudaira), a child of Hidetada Tokugawa the second shogun became Aizuwakamatsu Castle (Tsuruga castle) of the lord. The outer wall was destroyed by a bombardment of the New government army in the Boshin war but the tower did not collapse. In 1874, all the buildings were dismantled, the current Tenshu was restored in 1965 with an armored concrete. In 2011, the roof tiles were changed from black tiles to red tiles.

Shirakawakomine-Castle
Shirakawa Komine Castle is a unique all-stone-wall style castle in Tohoku, which is Teikaku-style Hirayama Castle suitable of a castle of the lord for a hundred thousand-Goku. It is one of the three great castles in Tohoku as Morioka Castle and Aizuwakamatsu Castle. The three-floor Yagura(tower) was destroyed by a fire when Boshin war. However, it was restored in 1991, also, Mikado was restored by wooden construction by traditional construction method, that was based on the picture of the Edo period in 1994.

Tsuchiura-Castle
Tsuchiura Castle had been a castle of the lord for 11 generations of Tsuchiya family for about 200 years since Tsuchiya Masanao entered into the castle in 1687. It was also known as "Ki-jo" (Turtle Castle) since it looked like a swimming turtle. Currently, it is used as Kijo Park and museum, also, Taiko Yagura Gate and Kasumi Gate are existent.

Sakasai Castle was built in 1577, which was over 400 years ago, the end of the Warring States period. It is maintained as Sakasai-jo Park and Yagura(tower), Gate, Bridge, Fence, main building, the second-floors Yagura, etc. were faithfully restored, that was based on the excavation investigation. It has been familiar to many people as a park that retains the atmosphere of Warring States Period.

Utsunomiya-Castle
Utsunomiya Castle is one of the seven great castles in Kanto. The most of the remnant is gone but some part of the mount of Honmaru is existent. The moat and the mount of Honmaru were restored, also, the buildings(Seimeidai, Fujimi Yagura, mud wall) were faithfully restored, that was based on Edo period. It is open to the public as Utsunomiya-Joushi Park. Honmaru Imperial Palace, Honmaru Shimizumon, and Honmaru Igamon may be restored in the future.

Takasaki-Castle
Takasaki Castle was built by Naotamasa Ii, who is one of the big four of Tokugawa. It was a vast castle that exceeded 165,000 square meters even only the Bailey. Currently, there are Sannomaru surroundings of Doi and moat, Inui Yagura(tower), and Eastern gate remaining. It is the only Inui Yagura in existence that used to be a repository for weapons and food, and they shot arrows and guns to enemies from here. Currently, it is maintained as Takasakijoushi Park.

Kawagoe-Castle
Kawagoe Castle is one of the seven great castles in Kanto. It was built without stone walls but a moat and mound were erected in the surrounding area. It was a castle of the lord for the successive lords of the domain, who held an important position in the shogunate, also, it was emphasized as a defense of the north side of Edo. Currently, a part of Honmaru Goten, which was built in 1848, is still in existence. There are only 2 castles(Kawagoe Castle and Kochi Castle) that you can see Honmaru Goten in Japan. It is very valuable remains.

Sekiyado-Castle
Sekiyado Castle is an important point of Tone River's water transportation. It had been served by the lord of the castle of the successive feudal lords, who held an important position in the shogunate. In 1705, Kuze became the lord of the castle until the Meiji period but it was abandoned by the abolition of the Han system. There are hardly any structural remains because of the river improvement. However, an imitation Tenshu(Yagura) is built in Sekiyado Castle Museum.

Kururi-Castle
In 1742, Kuroda became the lord of Kururi Castle and began the Meiji Restoration. In 1872, the building of the castle was dismantled, and the imitation Tenshu was built adjacent to the Tenshudai of the dirt mound. According to the contemporary literature in existence and the state of arrangement of the cornerstone, it is estimated that the building in the late Edo period was a two-story but the reconstruction of Tenshu is a three-story, so it is markedly different from the real building.

Otaki-Castle
Otaki Castle is an early modern style castle without stone walls. The first lord of the castle was Hondauji for 3 generations and passed to Abe, Aoyama, and Inagaki. In 1703, Matsudaira became the lord of the castle for 9 generations and began the Meiji Restoration. According to a Spanish who visited this castle in 1609 said, "The castle is a closely-watched castle, that is located on a hill and surrounded by moats, also, the gate is huge, that is made of iron entirely. The inside of the castle is beautiful with the color combination of gold and silver, and there is a magnificent armory."(Nihon Kenbunroku) He was surprised.

Odawara-Castle
In 1686, Okubo entered into Odawara Castle as the feudal lord of the Odawara Domain and the Meiji era began. In 1870, the Tenshu and Yagura were sold to a private sector and dismantled. However, in 1960, the Tenshu was reconstructed, Tokiwa Gate in 1971, Dou Gate in 1997, Umadashi Gate in 2009 were also restored. You can wear a costume of Bushi, Princes, and Ninja and take a walk in Odawara Castle and take pictures at Odawara Castle Information Center.

Shibata-Castle
Shibata Castle was a castle of the lord for the Mizoguchi for generations after Mizoguchi entered the castle in 1597. Many buildings were demolished after the Meiji era, but there are Honmaru and Kyu-Ninomaru, and Osangai Yagura and Tatsumi Yagura were restored. Osangai Yagura has a distinctive structure, that has a T-shaped roof and 3 Shachihoko on the building, that you can see only at Shibata Castle.

Nagaoka-Castle
Nagaoka Castle was a castle of the lord for Makino after Makino moved in 1618. The castle was burned down with the land near a castle because of the battle with the new government forces when Boshin war in the Bakumatsu (Hokuetsu War). The part of Nagaoka City Hometown Museum is made of Ishigaki stones from the former Nagaoka Castle. It looks like Tenshukaku but it is not related to Nagaoka Castle.

Takada-Castle
Takada Castle was built by the national feudal lords in 1614 as a castle of the lord for Tadateru Matsudaira, who is the sixth son of Ieyasu Tokugawa. In 1993, Sanju Yagura, which was the symbol of Takada Castle, that was destroyed by a fire in 1870, was rebuilt. Now, you can see the part of the moat and mount, also, Gokurakubashi, that was crossed from Ninomaru to Honmaru, is rebuilt. You can enjoy Someiyoshino trees, which is one of the best three major cherry trees in Japan.

Toyama Castle was a castle of the lord for Toyama Maeda for 230 years and it used to be the center of Toyama Domain. "Toyama Municipal Folk Museum" is newly built in Tenshukaku. It is a museum of Toyama Castle's history of over 400 years.

Kanazawa Castle was a castle of the lord for Kaga Maeda family for 14 generations. Tenshu was destroyed by a thunderbolt, currently, there are Yagura, Gate, Ichikawa-mon, and Sanjuken-nagaya remaining. However, the number of Yagura was the greatest in Japan at that time. Currently, it is maintained as Kanazawa Castle Park, and Gojuken-nagaya and Kahoku-mon were restored. The adjacent Kenrokuen is one of the famous Daimyo Gardens in Japan.

Maruoka-Castle
Maruoka Castle was built in 1576, which is Hirayamajiro, the oldest style of architecture in the existing Tenshukaku. The roofing tiles of Tenshu are made of stones, which is suitable for a cold district. This is the only existing example using stone tiles for Tenshu. There are over 400 Someiyoshino trees in the Japanese garden style park, also, it is designated as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites in Japan. Marouoka Castle cherry-blossom Festival is held on the property in April.

Ono-Castle
Echizen Ono Castle was built by Kanamori in 1575, that took 5 years. There were three stories of big Tenshu, two stories of small Tenshu, Ninomaru, and Sannomaru, and it was surrounded by a moat to protect the castle. The current Tenshu was rebuilt in 1968 by referring to the illustrations and the contemporary castle. There are many exhibits of the relics of the former lord of the castle.

Ichijodani-Castle
Ichijodani Castle was a castle of the lord for Asakura, and it was a walled city, which is including Asakura-Yakata, samurai residences along the river, and merchant residences. It was a flourished city during the age of civil wars and called as Kitanokyo. In recent years, the streets from that period have been restored referring to the result of an excavation of the area and the historical materials. It is the first full-size solid model in Japan, also, designated as one of Japan's 100 Best Castles.

Kofu Castle is Hirayamajiro(flatland-mountain castle), that is called "Ichijo Koyama" built on a hillock. It was emphasized as a castle to prevent the enemy's invasion of Edo, also, the lord of the castle was Shogun family for generations. Currently, Honmaru, stone walls of Tenshuguruwa, Tenshu, and a part of the moat remaining, and it is opened as "Maizuru Castle Park" and "Kofu City History Park". Also, Inari Yagura and Yamanotewatari-Yaguramon have been restored.

Matsushiro-Castle
It is one of the representative castles of Takeda's castle, that has a characteristic of Koshu-style of fortification. In 1622, Sanada moved from Ueda Castle and it was renamed to Matsushiro Castle during the third-generation of Sanada(Yukimichi), who was the feudal lord. The stone-built Honmaru was built at the central part of the natural levee, that was formed by the Chikuma River and surrounded by earthen Nino-Maru and Sanno-Maru. Currently, Tsuzumi Gate and Kitaakazu Gate of Honmaru, and the mount of Nino-Maru has been restored.

Ueda-Castle
Ueda Castle was destroyed after the battle of Sekigahara but it was reconstructed when Sengoku was the lord of the castle, and 7 Yagura and 2 Yagura gates were built. After the Meiji Restoration, these Yagura and Yagura-mon gates were removed except for the Nishi Yagura. 2 of the Yagura, which was reconstructed to the outside of the castle, were repurchased and reconstructed as Minami Yagura and Kita Yagura from 1943 to 1949. In 1994, Higashi Koguchi Yagura was restored.

Komoro-Castle
Komoro Castle was renovated to a modern castle consisting of cornerstone buildings, roof tiles, and stone walls when Hidehisa Sengoku became the lord of the castle in 1590. It is called "Anashiro", that because of the castle is located lower place than Jokamachi. Sanno-mon(Kaikoen), which is located at the entrance is one of the symbols of Komoro-shi. Many Yoshino cherry trees have been planted, also, it is one of the famous places for its cherry blossoms.

Matsumoto-Castle
Tenshu of Matsumoto Castle is one of the Goju-Tenshu, which is only two of these in existence with Himeji Castle. The Goju-Tenshu, that was built from 1593 to 1594, is the oldest Tenshu in Japan. It has been preserved as the Sengoku Period after facing the several times of the difficulty surviving. It was designated as a national treasure in 1963 after the major renovation work on Meiji. It is one of the five national treasure castles with Himeji Castle, Hikone Castle, Inuyama Castle, and Matsue Castle.

Takashima-Castle
Takashima Castle was a castle of the lord for the Suwa family for 270 years. It was an uncommon castle that has a hot spring, and the aqueduct and Ishimasu are still remaining. In 1871, the castle tower was removed. The removal of the cattle was determined in 1871, and the castle tower was removed in 1875. Currently, there is Fuko-Tenshu, and the view from the highest floor is wonderful, also, it commands a bird's-eye view of Lake Suwa. If the weather is good, you can see the view of Mt. Fuji.

Arato-Castle
Arato Castle was built in 1524. Currently, it is maintained as "Chikuma City Shiroyama Historical Park", and Yakata, watch tower, barracks, and gates were restored based on the medieval history. It is faithfully reproducing of those days as reviving Sanjo of the Sengoku period. It is accessible to Togurakamiyamada Hot Spring within a few minutes.

Gujohachiman-Castle
Gujo Hachiman Castle was recognized as a castle from the Shogunate in 1667 by Endo's repairing. The castle was abandoned in 1871 and demolished except for the stone walls. The imitation Tenshu was rebuilt in 1933, which is the oldest wooden reconstruction Tenshu and regarded as "The most beautiful mountain castle in Japan" because the view of the Tenshu from the land near the castle and the view of the town from the Tenshu are very beautiful.

Ogaki-Castle
Ogaki Castle continued until the Meiji Restoration after Toda became the lord of the castle in 1635. Tenshu was designated as a national treasure in 1936. However, it was destroyed by a fire in 1945. The current Tenshu and Inui Yagura were externally restored in 1959, and there is a museum inside of the castle. After that, Higashi-mon, Tamon Yagura, and Ushitora Yagura were restored and it continues up to today.

Iwamura-Castle
Iwamura Castle is a mountain castle, that is built in Japan's highest altitude of about 721 meters. It is one of Japan's three greatest mountain castle as Takatori Castle and Bitchu Matsuyama Castle. Stone walls are throughout the mountain, the total length of the stone wall was 1.7 km, and about 40,000 stones were used. The reason why this castle is called as a famous castle, because of the history of the castle, which lasted about 700 years from 1185 until the castle was abandoned in the Meiji Restoration. It's unlike in the history of Japan's castle.

Gifu-Castle
It was a castle of the lord for Dousan Saito in the Warring States period, also, a castle when Nobunaga Oda was aiming at governing the whole country. The current castle was rebuilt in 1956 and can go up by ropeway. You can get the whole view of the Japan Alps, also, Nagara River and Nobi Plain from the crown molding of Tenshu. It is commonly known as a historical materials exhibition inside of the castle and an observation platform on top of the building.

Sumpu-Castle
Sumpu Castle was built as a residence of Ieyasu Tokugawa by ordering the national feudal lords in 1607. Hirajiro, that has triple moats filled with water, and there are seven stories of Tenshu, that you can look down at Tokaido. The most of the buildings were destroyed by fire in 1635, but Yagura and the gates were rebuilt but not Tenshu. Currently, Tatsumi Yagura, Higashigomon, and Hitsujisaru Yagura are restored.

Kakegawa-Castle
In 1590, Katsutoyo Yamauchi entered the castle and conducted a massive expansion of Kakegawa Castle. There were triple Tenshu and surrounded by Kuruwa to transform to the modern style of the castle. After Meiji era, the most of the building was removed but Tenshu was rebuilt in 1994. The Tenshu is the first renovated wooden Tenshu in Japan. Ninomaru-Goten, which is designated as an important national cultural property, is one of the few remnants of Goten architectures that remaining completely.

Hamamatsu-Castle
It was a castle of the lord for the Tokugawa retainers of Daimyo during Edo period, the lord of Hamamatsu castle was handed down for 9 families, 22 generations. During modern times, there was no Tenshu as the illustration does not describe. The double Yagura in Honmaru was a substitute for Tenshu. The current Tenshukaku, which was rebuilt in 1958, is used as a museum. The surroundings of the castle are famous as cherry blossoms and there are many cherry-blossom viewers in the season.

Nagoya-Castle
Nagoya Castle used to be a castle of the lord for Owari-Tokugawa family for 17 generations, which is one of the three privileged branches of the Tokugawa family. In 1610, it was built by the national feudal lords and it says about 200 thousand laborers were mobilized. The golden Shachihoko on Dai-Tenshu is not from the beginning when the castle was constructed, but the wooden Shachihoko, which is made of gold plating, was restored in the same way. Honmaru-Goten has restored since 2009, the part of it is open to the public now.

Yoshida-Castle
Yoshida Castle was built by Ikeda, who entered in 1600. After 10 years of living in the castle, it became a castle of the lord for the Tokugawa retainers of Daimyo for 9 families, 22 generations. Currently, it is maintained as Toyohashi Park, and Sumi Yagura is rebuilt in Honmaru. The stone walls in Yoshida Castle, that has the family crests of Daimyo are engraved on it. It is considered as the stone walls are the surplus of the construction of Nagoya castle.

The castle was treated as an important castle of Ieyasu's birth place in the Edo period. It was a castle of the lord for the vassals of Tokugawa Daimyo for generations. Currently, it is maintained as Okazaki Park, and the current Teshu was reconstructed in 1959. It is a place famous for its cherry blossoms in Spring. Nishio-Castle
The characteristic of Nishio Castle was that Tenshu was not in Honmaru but in Ninomaru. Currently, Honmaru, a part of Ninomaru ruin is being developed as Nishio City Historical Park. Honmaruushitora Yagura and Chujakumon were restored. You can visit the park to see the Sukiya style of old "Konoe-tei", camellia garden, and Kyoto style garden "Shokoso".

Inuyama-Castle
National Treasure Inuyama Castle was built in 1537 and Naruse became the lord of the castle in 1617. The Tenshu is the oldest style in existence in Japan. Currently, there is Tenshu only, and it is one of the 12 Castles with Existing Castle Towers. Also, it is one of the five castles designated as a national treasure. In 2004, it had been Naruse's private property until the ownership transfer to "Inuyama Castel Hakutei Bunko".

Tahara-Castle
It was a castle of the lord for the Miyake family for generations about 200 years after Miyake came into the castle in 1664 until the Meiji Restoration. In 1872, Tahara Castle was demolished same as other castles. Currently, there are stone walls, moats, dry moats, well, Kakuato, restored Ninomaru Yagura, Sakuramon, old well, etc. There is no Tenshu at Honmaru, and Ninomaru Yagura was responsible for being the symbol of the castle on behalf of the Tenshu.

Igaueno-Castle
Igaueno Castle was renovated on a large scale by Takatora Todo in 1608 with high stone walls, which is one of the highest in Japan about 30 meters high, and water moats. Also, it was a castle of the lord for the Todo family as Tsu Domain until the Meiji Restoration. There was no opportunity to carry out a plan of five-storied Tenshu because Tenshu was laid flat by a large storm in the middle of construction. After that, Tennshu was not rebuilt and the castle was unfinished. The current reconstructed Tenshu was rebuilt in 1935 by private funds.

Isekameyama-Castle
Kameyama Castle has a role as a residence of the shogunate, and the shogunate who went up to Kyoto stayed at this castle. In 1636, Honda, who became the lord of the castle, reconstructed and Tamon Yagura was built at Tenshudai, which was without Tenshu. The Tamon Yagura still exists as they originally were, and it is extremely valuable as the extant Tamon Yagura. In 1873, the most of the structures were demolished, so only a part of Tenshu, Tamon Yagura, stone walls, moats, and mounts remain at the present time.

Minakuchi-Castle
Minakushi Castle was built in 1634 as a castle of accommodation for the third Shogun when they went up to Kyoto. It was built by the shogunate directly and miniaturization of Nijo Castle in Kyoto, which is consisting by of Honmaru and Ninomaru. The construction was executed by 100,000 carpenters. Currently, Kado Yagura was restored as Minakushi Castle Museum at Honmaru ruins. A model of Mizuguchi Castle and materials are being displayed in the museum.

Nagahama-Castle
In 1573, it was built by Hideyoshi Hashiba(Hideyoshi Toyotomi) with materials, which was used at Odani Castle. After Hideyoshi's death, it was demolished once but many materials such as stone walls were used for the construction of Hikone castle in 1603. Ieyasu Tokugawa started building the castle as an accommodation when they went up to Kyoto, and it was finished in 1603. However, the Tenshu was destroyed by a stroke of lightning in 1750, so there is Tenshudai only remaining. Fushimi-Castle
Fushimi Castle that Toyotomi Hideyoshi built was destroyed by fire. However, it was reconstructed by Ieyasu Tokugawa once in 1602, but it was deserted in 1619. Fukuchiyama-Castle
Fukuchiyama Castle was built by Mitsuhide Akechi in 1579. It was demolished at the beginning of the Meiji era, only stone walls and Akaganemon guard house were left, but it was rebuilt in 1986. The Tenshu was restored based on the self-contained Borogata and you can clearly see characteristics of the first Tenshu. The inside of the Tenshu is now a facility for City Folk Museum and historical materials related to the castle and Fukuchiyama are being displayed in the museum.

Shoryuji-Castle
It was a castle of the lord for Fujitaka Hosokawa until the Age of the Warring States, also, was a strong castle with Futaebori(double moats) and Masugatakoguchi. Entering the Edo era, in 1633, Nagai became the lord of the castle and renovated the ruined Shoryuji Castle. The castle was completed as a modern style of castle even it was imperfect. Currently, it is maintained as Shoryuji Castle Park, simulated Yagura is built. The dry moats and mounts remain as remnants of the past.

Sonobe-Castle
Sonobe Castle is known as the last built castle buildings in Japan. It was an encampment during the Tokugawa period, and was greatly renovated in 1868 in the Meiji period because of the public security of Edo was getting worse in the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate. It was completed in 1869 the following year. After that, it began to be called "Sonobe Castle". Ironically, most of the castle was demolished only four years after the large repairs because of the organization was migrated to a new system.

Tangotanabe-Castle
Makino was the lord of Tangotanabe Castle for ten generations after Makino moved in 1668 until the Meiji Restoration. Currently, a part of Honmaru and Ninomaru are maintained as Maizuru Park, Otemon and simulative Futae Yagura are restored. There is Tanabe Castle Museum in the park, that displays materials of the successive lords of the domain. It is known as a place famous for its cherry blossoms in Spring.

Hideyoshi Toyotomi started building the castle from 1583. Borogata type of Goju Tenshu was completed in 1585 and it became Toyotomi Osaka Castle. In 1620, Tokugawa ordered the national feudal lords to complete Sotogata type of Tokugawa Osaka Castle Tenshu in 1626. The current Tenshu was built to imitate Toyotomi Osaka Castle on Tokugawa Osaka Castle Tenshudai in 1931. There are many things to see such as magnificent stone walls that megaliths were incorporated, Otemon, and Yagura.

Kishiwada-Castle
Kishiwada Castle was a castle of the lord for the Okabe family for 13 generations after Okabe entered in 1640 until the Meiji Restoration. Tenshu was destroyed by a stroke of lightning in 1827, and castle facilities such as Yagura and Mon were destroyed in the Meiji era. And thus, there was nothing remains except for moats and stone walls in the remnants. The three storied restored Tenshu was built in 1954, but it was originally 5 storied Tenshu referring to illustrations.

Tokugawa ordered 20 Daimyos from 15 countries to built Sasayama Castle in 1609. It was completed in just six months. There are moats, stone walls, and Tenshudai remaining, the remnant of Umadashi is designated as a national historic site. Ninomaru Oshoin was restored in 2000, about 1,000 cherry trees are planted along the outer moats. It gets crowded with viewers in Spring.

Ako Castle is known as the castle of the lord for Asano, also, the setting of "Chushingura". Although it is one of the few castles built in a peaceful time, it is a practical castle built by the Koshu-Ryu military science. During the Meiji era, the building inside of the castle was destroyed and only stone walls and moats remained. Yagura, gates, fences, and gardens have been rebuilt since 1935, and Since 1935, the towers, gates, fences, and gardens have been gradually rebuilt, and the reconstruction of the Ninomaru garden is still under way.

Tatsuno-Castle
Wakisaka entered into Tatsuno Castle in 1672, and a new castle was built at the foot of Mt. Keiro. It is divided into a mountain castle and Hirayama castle at the foot of the mountain, and it reaches the current remains as a castle of the feudal lord, which is 50,000 koku. Currently, Honmaru Goten, Hakua castle walls, Tamon Yagura, Uzumimon, and Sumi Yagura are restored. There is historical townscape in the castle town and it is popularly known as "Small Kyoto of Harima".

Izushi-Castle
Izushi Castle was a castle of the lord for Sengoku until the end of the Tokugawa period from 1706 when Sengoku moved to the castle. The castle was demolished in the Meiji era, however, Shinkoro, moats, and stone walls in existence, also, Sumi Yagura, Tojo date, and Tojo bridge were restored, the whole neighborhood of the moat was maintained as a park. Restored Yagura, tall stone walls, and the atmosphere of the castle town are attractive. It is called as "Small Kyoto of Tajima".

Yamatokoriyama-Castle
Yamatokoriyama Castle was a castle of the lord for Yanagisawa since Yanagisawa entered into the castle in 1724 until the Meiji Restoration. Yamato was poor in stone materials, gravestone and Jizo are also used for the stone walls of Tenshudai. Currently, there are stone walls of Honmaru, and moats remaining, also, Otemon, Otehigashisumi Yagura, and Outemukai Yagura are restored. It is one of the Three Houses of the Tokugawa, was a castle of the lord for the Tokugawa family. Okaguchi gate and earthen wall were designated as an important national cultural property. Currently, Daisho Tenshugun, Yagura, gate, Otemon, and Ichinohashi are restored. Tsuyama Castle is one of the three major Ohirayama castles in Japan. Matsudaira entered into the castle in 1698, it was a castle of the lord for Matsuyama until the Meiji Restoration. In 1873, the buildings such as Tenshu, and Yagura were destroyed, and currently, there are stone walls of remains and cornerstones of the building. In 2005, Bichu Yagura and earthen wall were restored in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the castle. Bitchumatsuyama-Castle
Bitchu Matsuyama Castle was a castle of the lord for the Itakura family for 8 generations from 1744 when Itakura moved the castle until the Meiji era. It is the only mountain castle in existence 12 Tenshu, located at the mountain peak of Gagyu with the height above sea level 430 m. It is the highest place as the mountain castle of an existing Tenshu, and it is also one of Japan's three major mountain castles. Tenshu, that was built in the Edo era, and the doubled Yagura are designated as an important national cultural property. You can see the castle in a sea of clouds if the timing and conditions are met.

Okayama-Castle
The castle was built by Ukita receiving guidance from Hideyoshi Toyotomi during the Warring States period. It was a castle of the lord for the Ikeda family from 1632 when Ikeda entered into the castle until the Meiji Restoration. "Korakuen" was created on the north side of the Asahi River at the end of the 17th century. In 1945, Tenshu and Ishiyamamon were destroyed by fire but the unburned Tsukimi Yagura and Nishinomaru Nishite Yagura were designated as an important national cultural property in 1950. In 1966, Tenshu was reconstructed, and Akezu, Roukamon, Rokujuichi-Gangiuemon, and a part of the fence was also rebuilt.

Fukuyama Castle was a castle of the lord for the Abe family for generations from 1710 when Abe entered into the castle until the Meiji Restoration. Fushimi Yagura and Sujiganegomon are the buildings in existence, and Fushimi Yagura is the oldest building in the existing Yagura, which was relocated from Fushimi Castle when it was built. In 1966, Tenshu, Tsukimi Yagura, and Oyudono were restored. The ruins of a castle were designated as a historical site by the Government, also one of Japan's 100 Best Castles.

Hiroshima-Castle
At the beginning of Hiroshima castle was built, it was said the castle was comparable to the scale of Osaka Castle at that time, with five-storied and three-storied Dai-Tenshu and Cho-Tenshu and 88 Yagura. Iwakuni Castle is a mountain castle built by Hiroie Kikawa, in 1608. It was built with the natural outer moat using Nishiki River, and six-storied Tenshu was built on the Shiroyama, which was located at an altitude of around 200 meters. However, it was destroyed due to Ikkoku Ichijo Rei promulgated by Shogunate only 7 years later in 1615. The current Tenshu was restored on the south side of Honmaru based on the picture of "component drawing of Tenshu" in 1962.

Takamatsu Castle was a castle of the lord for the Matsudaira family for 11 generations for 228 years after Matsudaira, who was Shimodate Domain, entered into the castle in 1642. In 1670, the renovation of Tenshu was completed, and Higashinomaru and Kitanomaru were built from the following year. Tsukimi Yagura and Ushitora Yagura were built in 1671, and a palace was built at Sannomaru. Marugame-Castle
Marugamei Castle is one of the 12 castles with existing Tenshu, and it is the smallest three-storied wooden Tenshu in Japan. Kyogoku completed the Tenshu and whole castle in 1658 after he entered into the castle. However, all the 11 Yagura was destroyed in the Meiji era but the Tenshu and Otemon remain. The stone walls, which is four-storied and a height of about 60 meters, are famous as "Ogino Koubai". It is a castle of stone walls as the name indicates as "Stone Castle".

Imabari Castle was completed including the buildings around 1604. It is one of the best water castles in Japan with a vast moat with water from the sea and a harbor in the castle. Most of the buildings were demolished in the Meiji era except for Uchibori and the stone walls at the main area. Matsuyama-Castle
Matsuyama Castle is one of the existing 12 Tenshu, 21 existing buildings including Dai-Tenshu are designated as an important national cultural property, and the castle remnants are designated as a historical site by the Government. It is said that the castle name has been changed from "Otsu(大津)" to "Ozu(大洲)" after Wakizaka entered into the castle. Fukuoka Castle was built by Nagamasa Kuroda for 7 years from 1601, also, it is called Maizuru Castle. It was a castle of the lord for Kuroda throughout the Edo period. It is a Hirayama castle, there was no Tenshu but large, medium, or small Tenshu and 47 Yagura. The scale of the castle is the biggest in Kyushu. Currently, most part of the castle is used as Maizuru Park, and the outer moat at that time is maintained as Ohori Park. The remnants of Tamon Yagura, Kinen Yagura, and Najimamon are designated as an important national cultural property.

Kokura-Castle
It took 7 years from the beginning of the construction of Kokura Castle in 1602, which is built by Tadaoki Hosokawa. The Tenshu is called "Karazukuri Tenshu", the characteristic of the Tenshu is that the fifth floor is actually larger than the fourth floor, which are no eaves of the roof between the fourth floor and the fifth floor. Tenshu was destroyed by fire from the castle in 1837, but currently, it is maintained as Katsuyama Park and Karazukuri Tenshu was reconstructed in 1959.

Saga Castle was maintained to extend from 1608 until 1611 by Nabeshima in the early Edo period. It was a castle of the lord for Nabeshima family for generations until the Meiji Restoration. Currently, the castle is maintained as Saga Castle Park, and Honmaru Goten was built in 2004, which is the largest scale of the whole country as a wooden restored building. Karatsu-Castle
Karatsu Castle was built by Hirotaka Terazawa in 1608 using the demolished materials of Nagoya Castle of Japanese invasions of Korea. Hirado Castle is known as the castle of the lord for Matsura. In 1599, the fortification of the castle began by Shigenobu Matsura, however, they set fire to the castle and it was burned because of the consideration for Tokugawa shogunate in 1613 just before the completion of the castle. In the middle of the Edo era, the necessity of security for the coast, the rebuilding of the castle began in 1704, and it was completed in 1707. It is one of the few Yamagaryu castles, and it is maintained as Kameoka Park, also imitated Tenshu and Yagura are built.

Hitoyoshi-Castle
Hitoyoshi Castle was a castle of the lord for the Sagara family for 35 generations about 670 years. In the part of the stone walls, which was built at the end of the Tokugawa period, it is a unique style of stone walls called "Mushagaeshi", which is very rare in the Japanese castle. There is no other place except for Goryokaku of Hakodate and Tsuruoka castle but Hitoyoshi Castle is the biggest. Nakatsu-Castle
Nakatsu Castle is one of Japan's three major water castles along with Imabari Castle and Takamatsu Castle. It was called "Senjo" because of the form of the whole castle is Fan-shaped if you think of Honmaru is in the center. It was a castle of the lord for the Okudaira family after Okudaira entered into the castle in 1717 until the Meiji Restoration. In 1964, five-storied Tenshu and two-storied Yagura were rebuilt with the cooperation of the citizen, including members of the Okudaira family.

Kitsuki-Castle
Kitsuki Castle was renewed because the actual name was Kitsuki(木付) but the general wrote the name wrongly as Kitsuki(杵築) when Matsudaira entered into the castle in 1645. Tenshu was not rebuilt since it was destroyed by lightning in 1608, but now, three-storied Tenshu is built and it is used as a museum. The greatest appeal of Kitsuki Castle is castle town, Buke Yashiki, Shokuninmachi, and Teramachi, the atmosphere of that time remains remarkable.

Saiki-Castle
Saiki Castle is a castle built by Mouri in 1601. In the Edo era, the domain of Saiki set up Hancho in the castle, and it was a castle of the lord for the Mouri family for 12 generations until the Meiji era. In 1617, Honmaru and Tenshu were destroyed by fire from Ninomaru. In 1709, the buildings were restored except for Tenshu but it was abandoned in 1871, all buildings were removed except Sannomaru.

Usuki-Castle
Usuki Castle was built on the island called Niujima floating in Usuki bay, and there were three-storied Tenshu and 31 Yagura. The reconstruction work was done over 2 generations after Inaba entered into the castle in 1600. Since then, it was a castle of the lord for the Inaba family for 15 generations until the Meiji Restoration. During the Meiji era, some of the buildings below Tenshu were demolished and the surrounding seas were also reclaimed. Tatami Yagura at Ninomaru and gabled roof style Utonoguchimonwakiro at Honmaru, and they remain today.

Obi-Castle
Obi Castle was a castle of the lord for the Ito family for 14 generations about 280 years after Ito entered into the castle in 1588 until the Meiji Restoration. In 1873, all the buildings in the castle were demolished, but Otemon was restored in 1978 using the 100-year-old Obisugi. There are remains of Gakumonjo(a place for studying), Hanko (Domain school), Bukeyashiki(a warrior's residence), and stone walls, and it was designated as the Nation's Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings.

Shuri-Castle
Shuri Castle is the royal castle of the Ryukyu Dynasty. It was a castle of the lord for the Sho family for over 450 years since Sho Dynasty started in 1470 until Shuri-jo Castle was surrendered. In 2000, it was registered as a World Heritage site along with Nakijingusuku Castle as "Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu". However, the registration is "Shuri Castle Ruins", and the current main building of a shrine was restored in 1992, and other buildings and walls are not World Heritage.
