Kochi Prefecture is the hometown of the famous Ryoma Sakamoto, an important figure of the Meiji Restoration. Kochi City is also home to the best well-preserved castle in Japan. The Shimanto River in the western part of the prefecture is known as having the clearest stream in Japan. In the coast, Muroto and Cape Ashizuri are the main tourist spots.
