Gunma prefecture is known as an excellent in sightseeing location; it is very accessible; less than one hour by car, and around 40 min by Shinkansen from Tokyo. There are many hot spring resorts located throughout the prefecture such as Ikaho, Manza, Water Top, including the Kusatsu Hot Spring which is said to be the best in Japan. In addition, the highland area of Oze, spreading in the northeastern part of the prefecture is designated as a national park, known for its beautiful scenery and high altitude plant diversity. In 2007 Tomioka Silkworms which is also the origin of the Japanese industrial revolution was registered as a World Heritage Site.
