Gunma prefecture is known as an excellent in sightseeing location, especially due to its accessibility. From Tokyo, it’s less than one hour by car and around 40 min by Shinkansen. There are many hot spring resorts located throughout the prefecture such as Ikaho, Manza, Water Top, including the Kusatsu Hot Spring which is said to be the best in Japan. In addition, the northeastern highland area of Oze is designated as a national park, known for its beautiful scenery and high-altitude plant diversity. In 2007, the Tomioka Silkworms area, which is also the origin of the Japanese industrial revolution, was registered as a World Heritage Site.
