What is ETC?
ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) is a system in which an antenna installed at a toll gate on a toll road communicates wirelessly with an on-board device to identify vehicle type, traffic section, etc., and perform authentication and payment.
It allows convenient and efficient driving by automatically paying tolls without stopping the car.
Advantages of ETC system
Allows for smooth passage-
There is no need to stop at the toll booth, and you can pass through smoothly without preparing the cash or credit card.
Discounts will be applied-
There are discount services available by the day of the week and time, such as weekday mornings, evenings, and holidays, so you can save about 20% cheaper than cash.

National Expressway roads (called as the Expressway/Highway/Kosoku-doro)

How to apply
On the car rental reservation form, choose options you want.
* TOCOO! options is different from what car rental brands offering.Pick up and return
How to pick up
Please pick them up at a convenience store (Lawson, Family Mart) in the airport terminal or nearby.
* At Narita Airport Terminal 2/Nagasaki Airport, the options will be collected at the airport post office (the recipient's name must match the passport).
Select the airport to receive your options on the booking form-
The closest airport to the rental car pickup location is selected by default. Select a new airport as needed. Identification is required to receive the option, so please be sure to enter receiver name.
Check the pickup store information in your booking confirmation-
You will find the URL to confirm informations for the pickup store in the booking completion email. Check it in advance.
You will receive a notification email after complete your booking-
You will receive an email 2 days prior to the car rental date with all the information you need to pick up the car, including a QR code or barcode and the URL of the location.
After arriving in Japan, move to the pick up location-
Use the Store Locator or other tool to find a store where you can pick up your order and go there.
Options received / ready to use-

- Show your QR code or barcode at the cashier.
- at post office
- Show and the tracking number and the ID (Passport etc.) at the counter to receive the Letter Pack.
How to Return
Options to be returned should be put into the return envelope (prepaid and pre-addressed) that came with the package, and put in any post box in Japan.
Notes on picking up and returning
- You can't get the TOCOO! options at the car rental outlet.
- You need a TOCOO! ETC card for TEP, TEP Hokkaido and TEP Kyushu. Get one at the designated store in the airport.
- Please note that we can not take any responsibility for the case you can not receive the options due to incorrect name/Email address, or misunderstanding the receiving location etc.
